Acts Acts 17:16-21 - Idols: We Make Them and They Make Us
Encountering the Holy Spirit
The season of Pentecost is the season that focuses on the Holy Spirit of God coming into our lives and shaping the world for the better through us. Beginning with the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit filled the fearful disciples with courageous fire to share the good news of Jesus, we will examine many ways that the Spirit affects and empowers our lives until this day.
This Week
We are looking into Acts 17:16-21. It involves a story about Paul visiting Athens and being distressed by the sight of the many idols throughout the city. Paul, being a faithful Jewish person, understood the dangers of idolatry and his own people’s temptation to worship idols. It made him recoil that the people of Athens also fell to this same temptation. This Brief Bible Dive examines the nature of idolatry and how idols are not only human-made, but how they in turn shape us as their makers.
