August 7, 2022 Acts: Early Church Story “Lydia: The First Follower in Europe”

Lydia was a pioneering businesswoman who lived in an area once occupied by the ancient kingdom of Lydia. The Apostle Paul met her beside a river where she was praying with others. He shared the good news of Jesus with her, she invited him to her home, and her entire household was baptized. She is considered to be the first person to decide to follow Jesus on European soil. We learn from this story how Paul was ingenious in where to look for people responsive to the good news of Jesus, and that Lydia was a leader in bringing her family to the faith.
